From Dr. Tom Woodman:

English Catholic writer G. K. Chesterton once famously wrote that ‘Christianity had not been tried and found wanting; it had never been tried’. It is true that we often find it hard to grasp how radical Christianity is, ‘life to the full’ as the Gospel of John (10:10) calls it. (more…)

Thought for the Week 30/04/2012

From Sabine Schwartz, Catholic Chaplain:

This Sunday, the lectionary presents us with the much loved image Jesus gives of himself as the Good Shepherd who gives his life for his sheep. (John 10:11-18) This image has inspired many works of art, music and poetry, and many Christians throughout the centuries have drawn great joy and comfort from it. For quite a long time, it was one of my favourite images of Christ.

Maybe this is a good opportunity to reflect on what your favourite image of Jesus (or of God) is. Who is Jesus, who is God for you? Is he a friend, a parent, a role model? Or maybe rather a bit like a strict judge? The question matters, because the image we have of God (and of Jesus), hugely influences not only the way we pray and read scripture, but also the way that we relate to ourselves, to others and to the world around us.
