From Sabine Schwartz, Catholic Chaplain:
Sunday’s Gospel gives us an important hint on how we can contribute to the happiness and fruitfulness of this year. When Jesus says, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and give back to God what is God’s”, I think he is doing much more than elegantly avoiding the trap the Pharisees and Herodians have set for him. He is also not just talking about money and taxes. I believe he is talking about values and priorities. If this is so, to give to God what is God’s means that our moral values must be God’s values, our priorities the priorities of God’s kingdom. If we allow God to show us his priorities and allow them to affect our lives, all else will fall into place.
